Interest and attendance are not the same thing
An employee or student may avoid a conference, assembly, all-hands meeting, or celebration even when the subject or people matter. Crowds combine noise, movement, unfamiliar spaces, social expectations, and limited recovery opportunities.
Offer more than one route to participate
Consider seating choices, a quiet space, advance schedules, remote or recorded access, breaks, shorter attendance, or a designated contact person. Participation does not always require staying in the room for every minute.

Ask, “What would allow meaningful participation?” rather than treating full attendance as the only option.
